15 Things To Do in Myrtle Beach

Check out our list of 15 Things to do in Myrtle Beach. Everything from the beach to racing a NASCAR vehicle!

When I hear people talking about Myrtle Beach, they are usually discussing its great golf courses or Bike Week that attracts leather-wearing folks from across the country. However, I quickly found out when I spent a few days in this town that Myrtle Beach has so much to offer families. My schedule was packed with activities, but  I still didn’t get to see many places on my wish list. So I hope these ideas will help you narrow down your options to make sure you have the best places on your Myrtle Beach itinerary!

1. The Carolina Opry was such an enjoyable night out. With music ranging from Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood to old classics like Shout and Elvis, you’ll enjoy great vocals and high-energy dance performances throughout the show. In between songs, you’ll experience southern comedy that is mostly family-friendly that older children can enjoy. I think it would be a great idea to leave your kids at home and take a date night or the grandparents out for dinner and a show. The finale ends with patriotic music and recognition of veterans in the crowd. Price range: Adults $32-$46. Children: $15-$23.

2. I also had the opportunity to travel on the Barefoot Princess Riverboat. This boat has been around for years, and it was a relaxing, two-hour event to sit on the deck and check out the amazing mansions along the bay. You’ll experience a casual barbecue dinner buffet and a chance to sing along with your director for the evening. I couldn’t help myself but hop on the dance floor for the Cupid Shuffle. Price range: Sightseeing cruise $20. Dinner cruise $40.

3. The Sea Captain’s House is another place you have to visit when you’re craving some southern hospitality. Built in the 1930s, this oceanfront restaurant is a place to add to your travel plans. Hands down, it has some of the best hush puppies I’ve ever eaten and the perfect atmosphere if you’re looking for a nice night out with a local flavor. You’ll be full before the main course! Price range: $25-35 per entree.

4. The Skywheel is the largest observatory wheel on the East coast. It was built in 2011 and is a must-see for your entire family. You’ll especially enjoy the enclosed gondolas with air conditioning to give you a luxurious sight-seeing experience. One suggestion to get the most from your visit is to go right around sunset. We went around 7:30 pm to enjoy the visibility of the day, but when we had just about finished our ride, the wheel was lit up and could catch some of the beauty of the glowing nightlife. Definitely the best time of the day to go! Price range: Adults $13. Children $9.

By the time we were off the wheel, here’s the shot I had from the boardwalk.

5. I was thrilled to find out that Myrtle Beach built a boardwalk in 2012, and it is everything you’d hope for…great food, games, fun people watching. I never got that experience growing up and thought southern beaches were missing this piece to their towns. There’s something to enjoy at every age. I took this shot early one morning at a very peaceful moment, but you can believe that these boards are full of visitors during the peak times of the day.

6. I visited WonderWorks which is a science museum full of engaging, hands-on exhibits. I could’ve spent all day in this place. Just look – it’s a building built so it looks upside down!

WonderWorks has a virtual roller coaster, laser tag, 360 bikes (if you can bike fast enough, you’ll flip upside down), and a ropes course that suspends you overlooking all of the exhibits. They even do kid birthday parties! Price range: Adults $23. Children $15.

7. Last but not least, I have to mention Broadway at the Beach! This place is a boardwalk, mall, amusement park, and restaurant row all in one. Besides WonderWorks being here, a few of the many attractions at Broadway are Magiquest (think wands and a Harry Potter-like experience), Myrtle Waves Water Park, and Ripley’s Aquarium. A list of all the attractions can be found here. You can spend a lot or a little here depending on what you decide to do, so check out the site for coupons. If you want to keep to a budget, window shopping and feeding the fish in the lake can easily fill up an evening.

Let me know if you’re making your travel plans and have any questions. I’d be happy to help give suggestions on how to make your Myrtle Beach trip a memorable one!

8. Shop til you drop at The Market Common. You’ll find some of your favorite stores like Pottery Barn and Anthropologie at this outdoor shopping center, and if you check their site, you’ll find different events scheduled throughout the year. Coming up this fall are free carriage rides and a wine fest.

9. Mini golf. You know you have to play mini golf at least one evening while at the beach, and this is the place to do it. With over 5o courses, Myrtle Beach’s nickname as the World Capital of Miniature Golf is fitting. Here’s a list of the top courses to check out. In September, the Masters National ProMiniGolf Championship brings professional mini golfers to town for an exciting tournament. Didn’t even know that existed? Me neither, but how cool is that?!

10. Surprise your licensed-driving kids and husband and take them on an adventure they will never forget at Myrtle Beach’s NASCAR Racing Experience. This adventure is a little pricier but would be a cool idea for a special birthday or celebration. Depending on the package you choose, you may be spending $365-465 on a 5 or 8-minute drive. A ride along in a race car is much cheaper at $130. Check their site for discounts and promotional codes. Their pricing seems to be pretty flexible. I took a car out for a spin and had a blast! Don’t worry…You don’t have to be a great stick shift driver. Just know how to get into fourth gear, and you’re set.

11. After walking on the boardwalk, surprise the kids with a stop at the largest candy store that I’ve ever seen in the South. This store just opened right across the street from the boardwalk. If you have enough will power to not grab a bag and stuff it full of candies, just wandering around this store will make your teeth ache from the sweetness.

12. Let’s not forget to talk about the amazing beaches at Myrtle. Enjoy the view from the boardwalk, go fishing off one of the many piers, or have a lazy day in the sand. No matter what you decide to do, enjoy every minute of the view…

13. I probably should add a couple more food suggestions for you. There’s a lot of eating to do in this town! When visiting The Market Common, a fun, casual family restaurant is Nacho Hippo. This Mexican restaurant has delicious tacos, but my favorite part of my lunch was the menus. A cootie catcher menu? I was sold right there. It brought me back to my elementary days, and your kids will probably have just much fun as I did ordering.

14. If you’re lucky enough to take a date night out, Aspen Grille is an amazing spot to enjoy fresh southern cuisine in a romantic setting. The food is amazing, and the service was even better. Expect dinner prices to vary around $25-45. Oh, and I must add that their peach crumble dessert is to die for!

15. A definite must-see is the Brookgreen Gardens. Join a tour, check out the exhibits, and take in the natural beauty of this outdoor nature museum. Price range: Adults $14. Children over age 3 $7.

Note: Thanks to the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for paying my travel and expenses on this trip. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. This is one of the best places to search foor the best
bargain. While a couple might seek absolute privacy single-carrier flight in a self catering
holiday in the beach suburb are featured on heights.

Forts, palaces, shopping malls and streets bustling with vendors.
If you fancy ding soething more unusual the why nnot take a submarine trip and
    see what s available.
