A Day Made Better Thanks to OfficeMax

What a day! Today, Kenzie, Kyle and I were able to participate in OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” program and surprise our favorite teachers at our local Kindergarten Center with $1000 in school supplies. Today, we were one of many people across America sharing this beyond awesome surprise with beloved teachers as OfficeMax surprised 1,000 teachers across the United States with $1000 in school supplies in their efforts to erase teacher funded classrooms.

Join the cause! Take a peek at OfficeMax’s Day Made Better website here and you can even make direct donations via the site too.

To spread the OfficeMax love, we have a giveaway for a $100 gift card to Office Max so our lucky winner can surprise a teacher in their life with a gift too!

It was so exciting to be able to make this donation in our own community on behalf of OfficeMax. The kids were thrilled to gather all these goodies together and go into school bright and early for a special meeting with the Principal and each of the kids Kindergarten teachers.

Did you know that teachers spend an estimated $1.6 Billion annually purchasing their own school supplies for their classrooms?

The kids worked hard to create posters to personalize our donation.  Kyle’s note is just so adorable as he has only been in Kindergarten for 1 month and Kenzie, now in 2nd grade as a pretty elaborate letter in near perfect script written out for her Kindergarten teacher.  She even drew that Bear Cub, the school mascot, by hand – I think she has a future in art 🙂

We are so fortunate to have this marvelous Kindergarten Center in our school district where all Kindergarten children go before heading off to elementary school. It’s a very special place and creates a real nurturing environment for the first foray into public school. We are so happy we could share Office Max’s big pile of supplies with a special school in our community.

When we wanted to select a teacher for this gift, we knew the kids Kindergarten teachers were the perfect recipients as they are truly the ones who set the foundation for learning and academics – and are they are the ones who are giving my children the gift of reading.

Here we are setting everything up. Dad even came to school early this morning to help us as it is impossible to carry $1000 worth of school supplies – all that paper is heavy!

I have many friends who are teachers and I always hear them talk about everything they purchase for their classrooms and hear about the continually decreasing budgets in our public school systems.

Check out all the items we were able to donate from OfficeMax – the kit included a beautiful chair, Kindle Fire, Digital camera, and tons of school supplies.

About OfficeMax’s A Day Made Better

To the average American teacher, “back to school” means spending approximately $1,000 out of their own pocket for essential classroom supplies. OfficeMax founded A Day Made Better to help ease the financial burden on teachers and recognize their extraordinary efforts in the classroom. On October 1, OfficeMax associates around the country will surprise 1,000 teachers with a total of $1 million worth of school supplies. Since 2007, A Day Made Better and other OfficeMax Goodworks programs have contributed more than $25 million in grants and supplies to support more than 31,000 teachers and their classrooms. Additionally, through the annual event, OfficeMax has helped its nonprofit partner AdoptAClassroom.org secure funding for more than 100,000 classrooms nationwide. Learn more at adaymadebetter.com.
