While in LA for the Ralph Breaks the Internet Event, we had the chance to go behind the scenes of ABC’s new show, “The Rookie” which stars the super popular Nathan Fillion, who plays John Nolan. I’ve never been behind the scenes on a TV show so I thought the process was fascinating and while we were visiting, it was actual live set filming a future episode. This brand new show is already becoming a hit so it was really cool to see behind the scenes of a show I watch on TV weekly! Cop dramas are always exciting and this show is something fresh & new that I’m loving!

Nathan Fillion (star of Castle and the cult show Firefly) was actually on set filming during our tour! Awesome!!! We were able to see Nathan get mic’d up and take photos with him and some other cast members. And yes we all took our turn in the director’s seat!

Mercedes Mason, who plays “Captain Zoe Andersen,” actually came into work – on her day off – to take us on a tour of the set of “The Rookie”. She was outgoing, charming and beautiful. I loved having her walk us behind the scenes on set – going through every part of the station from the booking rooms to the briefing room to the jail/holding cells, and to the various offices. She was so much fun & let us toy around with the props in the office too!
She loved showing us all the props and giving us all the details on their set. It really does indeed look like an actual police station. It’s pretty cool as the entire thing has a warehouse feel when you walk inside initially. Parts of the interior of the set was indeed actually unfinished. So on the outside what looks like a plain old brown warehouse, is actually where all that TV magic happens.
You step inside and it seriously transforms into what looks like working Police HQ as seen on the show.
This is a the smaller unfinished area of the set. We sat here while we watched them film some scenes. But then when you go inside and officially to the interior of the set, everything just looks like a real Police Station. Fascinating! From holding cells to the offices to the lobby of the station. Pretty cool right?
From the signage to the cinder blocks it all looks like a real station.
Do we look like criminals?? LOL 🙂 We had to pretend to take a mug shot!
