Amazing Books to help you have “The Sex Talk” with Kids

With kids who are 6 and 8, I’m starting to think about HOW and WHEN I’ll need to sit down and have “The Talk” with them about the birds and the bees. I’m loving the incredibly illustrated books from Candlewick Press that dive into “The Sex Talk”- with cartoon style images and comic style illustrations discussing both kids changing bodies and just how babies are made.

As a kid, I can remember, the first time my Mom ever touched the topic was by getting out a colorful picture book from the library and letting me read it on my own. I can remember giggling with my best friend about the book but it was the perfect way to slowly starting thinking about changing bodies and how babies were made so I think this will be my strategy too. Then, kids can ask questions at their own pace too and at least they get an official intro at home instead just hearing whispers on the playground or school bus that leave them feeling clueless or confused.

Since this week 9/21 – 9/27 celebrates BANNED Book week and October is “Let’s Talk” Month, it seems like now is the time to delve into what resources us Mamas can use to gently ease into “The Talk” with our kiddos.

Amazing Books to help you have the sex talk with kids

For kids 7+ “It’s So Amazing! A book about eggs, sperm, birth, babies and families,” gives kids a fantastic and fun intro into the facts of life. I love the comic style illustrations that really focus on the internal HOW versus the act of sex which I think makes for an easier conversation for kids.

For kids 10+ It’s Perfectly Normal is more detailed and geared to older kids as it focuses on the details of those changing bodies, sex and sexual health that we all know lead to the making of babes.

Definitely take a peek at these fabulously illustrated books to start the sex conversation with your kids if you need a helpful tool to get the conversation started. I know this is how I’m going to do it!

  1. I’ve been browsing on-line above about three hrs presently, but I certainly not identified any kind of interesting report for instance the one you have. It’s beautiful cost plenty of for me personally. Personally, in the event most site owners as well as people built great content material while you do, websites might be considerably more helpful than ever before.
