Easy DIY Rust-oleum Transformations

I’m obsessed now with Rust-oleum and how you can literally TRANSFORM anything into something new to match the colors and trends that fit your style. Walmart challenged us to buy Rust-oleum and transform a mystery object they shipped to us in the mail into something new and different. Check out what we did below for our DIY Rust-oleum transformation!

I bought both aqua and gold rustoleum to give myself some options when my mystery item arrived in the mail.

Easy DIY Rust-oleum Transformations

Right now I’m loving the gold accent trends in home decor. So, when Walmart sent me box of multi-colored plastic letters and number magnets, I thought it would be fun to make them GOLD letters so they’d look less tacky when hanging on a fridge for parents with toddlers or preschoolers. I wasn’t sure how the heck I could do anything with a box of PLASTIC COLORED MAGNETS but turns out almost anything can be repurposed! Even those fridge magnets!

I used the textured Rust-oleum in GOLD. I love it and it costs only $5.62 per can of spray paint at Walmart.

Given I had lots of spray paint Rustoleum, I also thought I’d try to accent a plain clear glass vase with some gold rustoleum to see if I could make it shimmer and become a bit more trendy in our home. Plus I was curious to see how Rustoleum would work on both plastic and glass.

Applying Rustoleum Takes Minutes and is SO EASY

So easy is an understatement. We are talking simple for even the less DIY type individual. Shake the can of spray paint, and literally just SPRAY your object. Spray in a well ventilated area – like a garage with both doors wide open.

I sprayed on a few coats which took literally only about 5 minutes of my time including plenty of breaks to move away from the fumes and step into my driveway for lots of fresh air.

Final Transformations with Stylish Gold Accents

6 hours later, these were my results! I was thrilled with how both my vase and plastic letters turned out. Next time, I do a rustoleum project, I will consider a plan to spray paint everything again 4 hours later after it dries to cover up any missed areas for fuller coverage. However, I love a distressed look and didn’t mind seeing hints of my “BEFORE” item in my final transformed gold accent pieces. I think it adds a little vintage feel to everything and I’m proud of my DIY so I’d love for it to be a conversation piece in my home too.

  1. You’re so cool! I don’t think I’ve truly read through anything like that before.
So wonderful to discover another person with genuine thoughts on this subject.
