It’s always fun to make a Saturday night home with young children a little more exciting and special than just an “ordinary” evening. My kids find the concept of any “special occassion” totally thrilling which certainly makes this Mom & Dad happy we made the extra effort.
Here’s a clip from last night’s “Family Night.”
For the very 1st time, the kids made their very own “homemade” pizza. Kenzie is decked out in her apron & Kyle found the pre-shredded cheese scrumptious. This undomestic diva keeps things simple & quick with the pre-made Pillsbury Dough Pizza crust, pasta sauce, shredded cheese, and a little oregano. You can see how excited the kids are at the prospect of topping our pizza dinner off with a game of Candyland & the Mary Poppins movie.
As the kids get older we’ll be able to enjoy even more films and lots more board games. (Right now Kenzie is the only one who can join in a board game with us. So far we’ve introduced her to CandyLand and Zingo. I’m sure our board game collection will grow this year as she turns 4)
With a 3 year old and 1 year old, I find that just the concept of family night is what really creates a festive atmosphere. A few other fun ideas for young families that we enjoy include:
- Eat an easy meal or Nachos in our finished basement in front of our big screen TV while letting the kids eat, watch, and play during a fun family movie that us Parents can also enjoy like Madagascar, Wall-E, Finding Nemo.
- Sundaes on Sunday – after dinner we’ll take a family walk & top off our evening with sundaes. The kids love the whipped cream and sprinkles – especially if we let them apply the toppings themselves.
