Homemade Play-Doh Recipe – It's a cinch!

This recipe for home made play dough is super easy and even uses basic household ingredients. And I’m no star homemaker and quite undomesticated when it comes to cooking or crafts – but even I think this one is a breeze.

Our preschool first sent us this recipe so we could all bring in a different color for the class to use for the entire school year. I’m guessing this recipe makes the equivalent of at least 6-8 jars of store bought play-doh – and it will last forever if you keep it in the fridge. (picture on left of our results!) Enjoy!

Playdough Recipe

2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups water
2 tablespoons of cooking oil
Food coloring – I just use the required drops based on the instructions for the color we desire.

Mix it all in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until mix pulls away from the sides of the pan. It will not look smooth – and frankly you might think you are doing something wrong but it really will work! Immediately put the Playdough on the counter and knead until smooth.

Have fun.
