Homemade Puffy Paint Winter Crafts

The weather outside is freezing and we’ve been having snow days galore. It’s actually too cold to even play in the snow at 10 degrees with wind chills below zero so we’ve been crafting up a storm indoors. I’m a fan of shaving cream activities for all seasons as the texture is always captivating for children.

One of my Winter Time favorites  is to make Homemade Puffy Paint Winter crafts with shaving cream.

How to Make Homemade Puffy Paint Winter Crafts

It’s truly very simple to make your own homemade puffy paint winter crafts. Literally, all you really need to make your base of “PUFFY PAINT” is to mix traditional glue with Shaving cream. This will create a puffy realistic and 3-D look to your paint so your snow scene, winter landscape or snowman will pop off your construction paper for a beautiful craft that is sure to wow both child and Mom!

How to Make Homemade Puffy Paint with Shaving Cream and Glue

Take a peek at our step by step instructions on how to make homemade puffy paint below:

1. Mix traditional glue (aka Elmer’s or any other typical brand) to Shaving Cream to thicken it.

2. Use a bowl to mix together your ingredients. As a guidelines, I like to use about equal parts of both shaving cream and glue. (Note: The glue is what makes your shaving cream sticky and allows it to thicken into a homemade puffy paint substance)

3. Add food coloring or Glitter for a more elaborate puffy paint craft.  For a variation on the white shaving cream puffy paint look which is perfect for Snow or Winter themed crafts, just add either: glitter glue in lieu of regular glue, actual glitter bits, or food coloring to your shaving cream & glue mixture for more pizzazz.

Shaving Cream Puffy Paint Supplies

You can purchase all of these supplies in store at your local Walmart. I especially love Walmart’s craft aisle as it is full of inspiration for projects. From easy to use Glitter Shakers to actual COLORED Glitter Glue from Elmer’s along with the basics like Googly Wiggle Eyes, Construction Paper, Pipe Cleaners, colored Popsicle sticks and more.

Homemade Puffy Paint Crafts stay preserved for Years

My kids love their puffy artwork too! Even better, year over year these pieces of artwork maintain their beauty and preserve beautifully. Kyle even made this piece below last winter and it’s still in great shape 1 year later. Awesome!

  1. If Walmart cared at all about well-bring and motherhood, they would STOP support farms that use gestation crates and that treat mother pigs like garbage! Gestation crates are incredibly cruel and the pigs in them cannot even stand up or turn around! http://www.WalmartCruelty.com
