My kids and I absolutely ADORED the new Paddington Movie when we saw it when it first opened in the theaters last week. If your looking for something to do to escape the winter chill and crazy snow, I promise the entire family will enjoy this flick. It is fabulous and a must see family movie that works for little kids, tweens, and parents generating lots of  laughs over Paddington’s hysterical misadventures along with excitement and worry over Paddington when he gets mixed up with the villainous taxidermist, Millicent, played by Nicole Kidman.

Nicole Kidman on Playing the Villain in Paddington

“The woman who did the costumes has designed a lot of the Bond films. So, it has a slightly Bond villain film feel to it, which was kind of fun.”

“I just wanted to be in the movie. So, whether I was the villain, whether I was the good person, it was just like, “I would like to be in this movie because it seems like fun.” When you start out, you’re always told always look for the villains because usually in Shakespeare those are the roles that are the most interesting and the most diverse. I would have been fine playing anything. I would have played the bear!”

Nicole Kidman Thoughts on on Paddington Bear

“When I was a kid, I always wanted my own animal. I actually wanted a monkey, because I think that was already my maternal instincts coming out. But, I wanted an animal that I could sort of take care of, that would be either like a younger sibling or my child. And I think Paddington has those kind of qualities for a child. It’s like oh, my gosh, there’s somebody smaller than me but he talks and he wears clothes, and I can tell him what to do. And there’s something really darling about that. And that’s probably what was so appealing to me as a child. And I would think that’s the same thing that appeals to my girls.

And every time they see the commercials now on TV, because they’ve seen the movie. And they scream, “There he is!” I mean, they’re only four and six, so to them he really exists!  He’s alive.”

What Nicole Kidman Hopes Families will Feel after seeing Paddington in the Theater

Question:  You have the parents and the children in the theater together. As someone who brought this film to life as a character, what are you hoping that we’ll leave with our families feeling? With our children and also as parents, as an actress, what do you hope when we leave we feel?

Ms. Nicole Kidman: I mean, I make all sorts of genres. I make films that are disturbing. I’ve made films that are very adult. I sort of seek out all different areas of life. But, there’s something incredibly gratifying about doing a movie that makes people laugh and also makes people feel closer.

And I think that’s what Paddington does.

And my mom, who’s 74, sat on Christmas Day with my six year old and my four year old and watched the same movie. And they all laughed and enjoyed it and came out closer. And that’s incredible. I haven’t had that before in my career. So- –I’m 47 years old and that’s a first for me. To have the grandmother and her granddaughters watching a film together and bonding that way is beautiful.

Nicole Kidman Can’t Stop Raving about Paddington

“Usually you promote a movie and then that’s it. And it comes out and it’s over. But, for me, this movie is very special and so I keep wanting people to see it. So, that’s why I keep talking about it and wanting to tell people about it.”

Official Synopsis of Paddington

From the beloved novels by Michael Bond and producer David Heyman (HARRY POTTER), PADDINGTON tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) who travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you.” and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.

Starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Nicole Kidman, and Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington.

  1. I am really looking forward to seeing this movie. I read all the books as a child, and still remember begging my mom to buy me orange marmalade!

  2. I knew nothing about Paddington Bear when I was a child. Maybe that’s why I’m so craving a fix of him!

    Thanks for a great giveaway.
