I am AMAZED and thrilled with this initiative by Walmart to enable us to shop online for distinctive products from women-owned businesses in the U.S. and around the world . Think handcrafted items from Nepal, jewelry from Rwanda, and more. Unlike a charity handout, this is truly a problem solving initiative to create a plan to enable economic success and breaking that geographic barrier that exists between the dollars I have and items I would be willing to buy from another woman small business owner across the globe.
At launch, Empowering Women Together will offer shoppers more than 200 items from 19 businesses in nine countries. The Store for Good is literally on the walmart.com website right now. Wow!
Walmart is using their size and scope to enable our dollars to make a difference and support women owned businesses not just in the US but in remote areas of the world that must likely would never have had a chance without this initiative. This is a huge commitment from Walmart and clearly showcases their commitment to Global Women’s Economic Empowerment.
So what can you buy? Everything from dark chocolate, to gluten free breads, board books, and items that are more hand crafted like jewelary, scarves, and woven baskets. When you click on each item, you can also read about the women owner and learn where she is from and what she is all about. I love it!
