Kids Room Decorating Ideas: NYC Boy's Bedroom

Isn’t it fun to take a sneak peek into someone else’s world, even if only for a minute? Well, here’s a chance to see inside the classy, upscale bedroom of a 6-year-old boy, Gavin, who lives on the Upper West Side in NYC. Maybe it can give you some ideas for decorating your own baby’s nursery or boy’s room!

Space is a premium in the city, but this luxurious room is both spacious and well organized, making the most of every inch. The decorations are whimsical and stylish, topped off with a personal touch. Gavin was born in London, so there are a variety of items displaying images from London (think changing of the guards, double-decker buses, etc). Gavin likes trains and cars, as reflected by his bedding, as well as dogs, which are reflected in the art on his walls. I love the eclectic mix of different pieces of “dog” art that work so well together… there’s everything from Peanuts’ Snoopy to Blue Dog by Rodrigue.

Gavin’s bedroom serves as a make-shift playroom during the day too, so the floor space is well utilized. It’s home to his train set, but the rest of the toys are put away after playtime in the host of drawers and shelves throughout the room, as well as in the toychest. The sleeper sofa is a much valued addition to the room. Not only does it give a parent a comfy place to sit while a child plays on the floor, but it’s a great place to snuggle up with your child for a bedtime book, and you can also have guests sleep on the pull-out sleeper. If space is a concern in your child’s bedroom, consider a 1.5 seat sofa instead of a big sofa… they even make ones that can fold out to a Twin sleeper!

Here’s a close-up of the top of Gavin’s toy chest. Isn’t it adorable? It’s a hand-painted treasure from London. It is even personalized with his name and birthdate.

And here’s a look at the ever-important closet! Situated between two built-ins, this closet has it all. There’s a place for everything a little boy needs… pants, shirts, sweaters, play clothes, laundry, momentos/tokens, etc. I need someone to organize my closet like this!

Finally, here’s a quick video tour of the room, where you can see a few other items not seen in the photographs. I hope that this “peek” into a little boy’s room helped to give you a few ideas the next time you go to decorate!
