Picking Beets with Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner got down and dirty on the farm with Kenzie and Kyle today in Yorktown Heights, NY to kick off Frigidaire’s Kids’ Cooking Academy Summer Session in support of Save The Children. You can help by just visiting the Frigidaire website and committing to eat fresh foods – and Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children!

Despite the boiling heat, the stylist had Jen dressed in a pretty pink cardigan and glittery flats. The lovely Jennifer was roasting but she was all smiles for the photo opps and as always – super genuine and cute with the kids and Moms.

Did I ever mention how much I love her? Oh yeah, maybe like a zillion times! But really, she is so down to earth and always willing to take an extra photo despite her insane schedule on these media days.

What did we do on the farm?

Aside from our beet picking expedition, we had a busy morning! After Jennifer was whisked away from the beet field, we enjoyed a great tour of the farm which made quite an impression on my kids. Eating fresh strawberries, feeding chickens, and picking scallions, chard, lettuce, kale, and more was so much fun even in 100 degree weather.

What did the kids learn?

No doubt, our day at the farm and cooking up fresh treats with Jennifer influenced Kenzie and Kyle. It’s amazing how introducing kids to healthy concepts and letting them really and truly experience it – by picking fresh veggies from the field and eating them right then and there – impacts their decision making and desires. As of this afternoon, my kids are now all about eating fresh.

Despite the 100 degree heat in Philly today, after we returned home from New York, the kids had me out in the yard with them digging to “pretend” to garden and they are begging for us to grow herbs and plant some veggies. A very exciting moment for this Mom!

How Can You Help?

To help give more children access to fresh foods, Frigidaire is also unveiling a partnership with the location-based “check in” app, Gowalla. Starting June 9th when people check in at their local Farmer’s Markets via the app, Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children, as part of their $500,000 commitment to the cause.

Also, visit Make Time For Change to commit to eat fresh food, and Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children. So easy and such a simple way for us all to make a difference and support Save the Children – plus remind ourselves we need to eat fresh foods and convince our kids to do the same!

Disclosure: Thanks to Frigidaire for this amazing day. From paying our travel expenses to New York, providing us with lunch, and giving us a cute swag bag full of gardening supplies – which the kids and I have already put to use despite the 100 degree heat in Philly today. They are just beside themselves with excitement now to garden after their day on the farm. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.
