Race Day – Then & Now

Wow. Time flies. Take a look at these photos!

4 years ago, Kenze ran her 1st little race at 19 months during a kiddie fun run at one of Mike’s 5K’s. I was about 4 months pregnant with Kyle and our little toddler was showing her competitive side . See how nervous she is with her little gestures? She ran about 100 yards but ended up crying as she had trouble running in her crocs and was discouraged at the older kids flying ahead of her. Mike helped her finish.

Fast forward to age 5.5 and this past weekend. Kenzie was still the youngest kid on the starting line for the 1/2 mile run at a local road race. But she was determined to run it and earn a ribbon – I couldn’t have been more proud of my little cutie. Wonder where she gets that competitive streak huh?

You can tell she is a little nervous at the start. Most of the kids were about 8-10 years old in the race, so Kenzie was lagging behind but did wonderful. Mike ran the whole way with her to encourage her and she looked awesome and was so proud of her finish.

Even better, since Mike won the overall 5K , he handed over his trophy to her. Kenzie feels like she really won it and is so proud of herself as she knows a trophy is not something you can “buy” at a store but have to earn from hard work and success.

Relishing the water ice post race – thus the blueberry lips!
