Family Movie Night: Beethoven's Christmas Adventure

Full speed ahead! We are gearing up for the holidays at a record pace this year after Halloween. The kids are just too excited for all things Christmas and since these childhood moments are so fleeting, we’re embracing the holiday spirit full force to maximize everyone’s enjoyment.

Here are the kids super surprised and excited to open a package on Thursday full of all the ingredients to have our own family movie night – popcorn, cool popcorn containers, caramel corn, and a holiday themed DVD – Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure.

Here are the kids sporting their adorable Gingerbread Pajamas on Friday night after dinner as they prep for our Family Movie night. At almost age 4 and 6, these cuties couldn’t be more ready to embrace the holiday spirit and every story or tale about the season.

This is the perfect movie to get in the mood for the holiday.

The Kids final verdict on the flick …. they gave it a rave review. The story is about an Elf who lost Santa’s Toy boy and needs the help of a young boy and Beethoven the dog to rescue the magical toy bag to save Christmas. There’s also a nice Mother/Son story involved too. The kids were most impressed with the talking dogs (or ability for the Elf to understand the dogs “barks”) and of coure the actual Elf. I also thought the movie was very cute for kids and it 100% kept their attention for the 80 minutes.

Kyle’s final comment  before going to bed after the movie ended was a plea for us to pretty please decorate the entire house for Christmas while he was sleeping as he was just sooooo excited to get ready for the holidays. Love it!

Here’s Dad cuddling with Kyle. The kids are seriously just too cute at this age. I don’t want it to ever end as they are still totally little, silly, cozy and cuddly – and oh so excited to do fun things with us as a family.

As they get older, I know this will pass…. boo hoo!

My kids adored this trailer and are making me replay it again and again.  Take a peek!

Blending state of the art animation with live action, Hop is a comedy about E.B. Gnomeo & Juliet Trailer with Family Review

Yesterday we  saw a preview screening of Touchstone Pictures “Gnomeo & Juliet” with the kids. The movie releases this weekon Feb. 11th, 20111. Check out the trailer here. We love showing Kenzie & Kyle movie trailers before we take them to the theater as we find it really excites them for the movie and enables them to instantly relate to the characters at the start of the film.

It was a fabulous flick that the kids loved and us parents totally enjoyed too. Going to an upbeat movie like this was the ideal way to spend a dreary wet & freezing winter Saturday morning. The tale of Romeo & Juliet channeled through Garden Gnomes is worth seeing for the kids & parents.  Even better, unlike the tragic Shakespeare tale, this version does have a happy ending.

However, I must caution parents that at one point their kids may fear all hope is lost for Gnomeo and Juliet’s happily ever after ending. My 5 year old Kenzie was crying and in total tears when she thought Gnomeo died and 3 year old Kyle was very very upset too. Kenzie was heartbroken and crying for about 5 minutes until it became clear to the audience that Gnomeo still lived. The suspense made the movie all the more exciting for the kids as they were totally captivated by the tale and were certainly vested in the characters. When the kids realized that Gnomeo was alive, they could not have been more thrilled either!

Elton John is Executive Producer of the movie too so as expected, the music did not disappoint and was a huge bonus. You can read our interview with Elton John here. He dishes on the movie and his new son Zachary with us when ClassyMommy.com’s writer Bonnie met with him in Los Angeles earlier this month. I can’t get the tunes out of my head! We might need to buy the soundtrack if they sell one as it was excellent.

Disclosure: Our tickets to this advanced screening for free to facilitate our review.

Charlie St. Cloud Movie Review

Ok, High School Musical enthusiasts, this is the moment that we’ve all been waiting for. Charlie St.Cloud hit theaters today, and I feel like every Zac Efron fan is dying to see him take on an entirely new role in this movie. Lucky for me, I got a chance to see a screening of the movie a couple weeks ago, so I’ve been anxious to talk all about it.

For those of you who’ve missed the trailer, this story is all about family and hope and the close bond between brothers. When Charlie loses his younger brother Sam in a tragic car accident, Charlie continues to play catch with Sam’s ghost every evening. When love comes into the picture, Charlie has to choose to continue living in the past or make the most of the life that he’s been given.

After watching the trailer for the movie, I thought it was the typical dramatic romance, but I actually thought the movie had a Sixth Sense feel to it. All of us were captivated in the plot the entire time. I tried to keep track and am pretty sure I cried unofficially three times during the movie. The main characters were great, and Zac has gotten several points in my “cool” book for pulling his role off so well. If I had to rate this on a 5-star ranking, I’d give it a 4. It’s a great movie to take the entire family to go see.

If you have high schoolers at your house, I’m sure they are probably all talking about this movie. I live with a family with two high school girls, so I thought I’d interview them to see how they ‘re feeling about the premiere. Do they sound a lot like some teens you know?

My Date Night Tonight: Secrets of the Mountain

What’s your plan this evening? Date night out? Family night in? Just a movie or dvd after the  kids are put to bed? I’ll be tuning into Secrets of the Mountain at 8 PM EST on NBC.  Here’s an in depth interview with clips. A few of my girlfriends got a sneak peek at the movie and rave about it here too.

I remember those family movie nights from Disney as a kid. They were marvelous. And it looks like NBC (with the help of P&G and Walmart) is trying to bring back these kind of movies that are exciting, dramatic, and family friendly to national network TV.

Babies Documentary

I’m dying to see this documentary chronicling the 1st year of life of 4 newborns from San Francisco, Tokyo, Namibia, and Mongolia.  As an anthropology major in college human behavior fascinates me. Here’s a sneak peek below.

If cross cultural differences interest or excite you, I highly recommend you read this easy to read book written by my college professor from Cornell all about the ethnical differences in parenting styles – Our Babies, Ourselves by Dr. Meredith Small.

Secrets of the Mountain Movie Trailer

Check out this trailer! The Secrets of the Mountain family movie has it all as far as action & drama. The trailer has me hooked and I will be tuning in to NBC to watch on Friday,  April 16th at 8 PM EST (7 PM CST). The inner anthropologist in me is especially intrigued what with talk of Aztec legends. If I  hadn’t ended up a mommy blogger, maybe I would have gone back to get my Phd in Anthropology…. maybe someday! You can purchase this movie on DVD for $12 and it will be available immediately after airing – so you can order now.

The Walmart Moms had an advanced screening in NYC last month that sadly I had to miss. The primary job of being a Mom comes first and I couldn’t score a sitter to make attending happen.  I’ve hear RAVE reviews from my girlfriends who saw the movie. Lori from A Cowboy’s Wife said she was even in tears at one point!  I can’t wait to see it – hoping to get a screener but this flick sounds like it is under lock & key until 4/16!
