Leggings, Jeggings, and Skeggings!

Lights. Camera. Action! This week has been a whirlwind for me as I’ve been traveling to do various news segments to talk Back to School fashion trends for less – all thanks to Marshalls & TJ Maxx since I’m one of their spokespeople for this season. This afternoon I’m off to San Diego – for a fashion show with 15–20 kids tomorrow morning. I can’t wait.

Scoring designer brands at an off price retailer for 20-60% off is fabulous so it’s fun spreading the word about these hot deals & styles.

Yesterday I went to Columbus, Ohio to talk “Celeb Kid Looks for Less” on the Good Day Columbus Show.

You can take a peek at the segment here.  The kids were adorable and we covered how to get Jaden Smith’s rocker look, Ava Phillippe’s Boho Chic, Malia Obama’s Preppy Chic, and Brooklyn Beckham’s sporty look.

In Philly, my hometown I did the cutest segment on my own Good Day show to cover Leggings, Jeggings, and Skeggings, along with the fact that layers layers and more layers are in for the boys. My models were so much fun! And Kenzie was very jealous that she did not get to participate. Next time!

Here’s some of the buzz words you need to stay up on the latest fall trends for kids.

Here are just a few of her must-have looks and back-to-school trend pieces that your kids will surely be buzzing about:
Jeans + Leggings = Jeggings: Not quite jeans, but as stretchy as a legging, these trendy bottoms are a must-have for younger girls and teenagers.  This season, look for five-pock varieties with a deconstructed or worn finish.
Nobby Tees: T-shirts made with a thin, worn material and finished with raised threading is a nobby tee.  Look for nobby tees with a trendy graphic design in neutral shades like gray, black and white.
Lots of Layering: Layering is the trend of the season for boys and girls alike.  Layer a graphic tee over a flannel shirt for a look that’s casual and cutting edge.
Skirts + Leggings = Skeggings: A skirt attached to a legging is a skegging and a must-have for all girls this season. Pair skeggings with a nobby tee and military-inspired boots for a hip and comfortable look.
Deconstructed Denim: This season, denim is worn and finished with hardware.  For girls, look for jeans with embellished back pockets; for boys, look for strategically placed rips, tears or patches.

How To Shop TJ Maxx & Marshalls

4 Tips on How to Shop TJ Maxx & Marshalls this season. The start of school is literally around the corner and families are scrambling to get back to school supplies & the updated wardrobe for the kids squared away as they squeeze in those last spectacular days of summer by the pool or a family vacation at the beach.  I asked the pros for some tips on how best to shop both TJ Maxx & Marshalls to help us score the best deals and make the most of our back to school shopping.  Thanks to Laura McDowell, the official spokesperson for TJ Maxx for sharing her expertise.

1. Shop Regularly & Shop Often- TJ Maxx & Marshalls are constantly refreshing their products with 10,000 items arriving weekly in every store. Talk about turnover. You never know what to expect and always have a chance to find a deal on something. This week might be lunch boxes galore while next week will have awesome storage organizers for kids heading off to college or for Mom to makeover the kids closets. They’ll always have the latest trends in stock.

2. Stop in the Toy Section 1st - Really. Go to the toy section first. My kids go crazy for all the wide array of toys and books at both TJ Maxx & Marshalls. If you let them pick out a toy at the beginning, they can play with it all during the “boring” part of your hunt for the perfect outfit. It will make everyone happier and if the kids are really good – you can maybe even buy it at the end.

3. Think of TJ Maxx & Marshalls as a gift destination - I love to score a deal on birthday party gifts. Then I’m able to give an extra special gift while still being within a $10 – $20 budget. So while you might be shopping for cool Hello Kitty stationary, a Spiderman backpack, or a cool lunch box,  TJ Maxx & Marshalls also have all kinds of Educational Toys, puzzles, board books, Thomas the Train goodies, Strawberry Shortcake, Melissa & Doug products, and whatever is HOT at the moment.

From Twilight for your teens to Beezus & Ramona for your tweens.

4. Look to TJ Maxx & Marshalls to find the trends – Since merchandise is constantly revolving and fresh, you can be certain they are carrying what is hot at the moment. (And yes you’ll find those designer names at 20-60% off too!) So what is hot this season?

For Everyone – Layers!

For the ladies – All those Asymetrical Hemlines are totally in.

Girls – denim, jeggings, very long cardigans, rugby striped dresses, all those razzle dazzle tees and anything with embellishments from peace signs to flowers to jewels.

- Boys – Layers! And all the looks we love from Surfer, to the Sports kid, to the Preppy boy style.

- Moms – A return to a more polished and sophisticated style. Very classy outfits think jackets, blazers, blouses and all those gorgeous materials we covet like cashmere & leather!

TJ Maxx Teen Choice Celebrity Buzz

Take a tour of the TJ Maxx Teen Choice Gifting lounge where we asked celebs to sign these incredible reusable totes to auction off on eBay to raise funds for Save the Children.  Did you know that 1 in 5 children in the US live in poverty?

We were able to chit chat with all the celebs to find out their back to school memories and get their take on the latest fashion trends for this season as they signed bags too. Very cool!

TJ Maxx donated $100 per bag that every celeb signed to Save the Children. This money will help buy school supplies and $100 can even buy snacks for 1 child for 1 year.

The moms and the kids were excited to make an impact and sign the bags. We  loved hearing the stories the celebrity moms shared about their favorite memories and what fashions their kids are digging lately as we mingled.

Kellie Martin says her 3 yr old daughter is crazy for Hello Kitty and that trend seemed to be repeated all day by many of  the tween and teen girl stars that shared their faves and must haves for the season. The girls were also keen on the razzle dazzle as you know the sparkles, gems, and embellisments are still hot. Along with the jeggings for girls. They are too cute.

And layers are hot for both boys & girls this season as evidenced by what everyone was wearing to the event too.

I loved meeting the  young actor who played Jacob in Lost. Isn’t he adorable? He was so polite and sweet. He also brought his little sister along with him and held her hand throughout the event and tour. As for his fashion sense – he was wearing awesome looking sneakers that were totally shiny silver. Very hip.

Thanks to TJ Maxx for supporting Save the Children and letting us help spread their efforts. You can get involved by buying one of these totes at your local stores for only 99 cents. And 100 % of profits will be donated to Save the Children. Isn’t that fabulous?

Fashion Friday: What I Scored Lately

Fashion Haul TJ Maxx Style! Check out our video to see the full details on our fabulous finds from TJ Maxx. Mommy & the kids scored big time on this trip.

The kids are most impressed by their lunch boxes – only $5.99 and perfect for lunch bunch as they head back to preschool. Love how my girly girl chose the Phillies over all the fabulous Hello Kitty and Barbie options.

But Mommy is gaga for her new designer jeans. Yep. Real celebrity style designer jeans. Unreal.  I found them at the Runway Style section of my local TJ Maxx at the Gateway Shopping Center in Wayne, PA. They had a huge selection of brands in every range of sizes. And for only $59.99 I scored a pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans.  It was such a deal I bought 2 pairs – 1 in dark denim and 1 in a regular lighter style denim.

And as you can see in the video I bought lots for myself. The other major finds for my kids were a fantastic Nike sweat suit for Kyle (top & bottoms!) for only $15.99 and a gorgeous plum sweater dress for Kenzie for only $14.99 for back to school.
