The Elf on the Shelf

Wow. The Elf on the Shelf is one hot product in our household. And if you don’t already have one, but are into Christmas traditions and are big on the Santa Claus factor, then this the Elf on the Shelf is for your family. This year I finally decided to buy Kenzie and Kyle the popular "Elf on the Shelf" that I heard so much about last holiday season. I picked mine up at Barnes & Noble in October and gave it to them on Thanksgiving. What a fun trip it has been with our shelf elf, named Charlie, these past 15+ days. If you haven’t heard of the Elf on the Shelf – here’s what he is in a nutshell. An irresistible elf comes paired with an adorable story explaining just how the Elf visits Santa at the North Pole every night to report on naughty or nice behavior and that Santa’s rules are that absolutely no one can touch the elf nor can he speak to us. However, children can talk to the elf so he can relay messages to Santa Clause himself during his nightly trips to the North Pole. Each evening, after the kids are asleep, Mom and Dad hide the elf in a brand new very hard to reach hiding place. Come morning, the kids scurry around to find the elf. Kenzie and Kyle love waking up and visiting Charlie each morning. And as a fun bonus in our household and many others, Charlie has a special way of bringing Christmas gifts or tiny surprises with him back from the North Pole. So far Charlie has surprised my kids with holiday craft activities, Christmas PJ’s, and more. Plus, any time the kids misbehave, we are all quick to remind them that Charlie is watching. Poor Kenzie panics for Kyle when he is not listening right in front of Charlie as she warns him he will not get any toys for Christmas if he doesn’t listen to Mommy or Daddy!
