Visiting our Local Feeding America Food Bank to Support The Great American Milk Drive #MilkDrive

Did you know Milk is one of the most requested but least donated items because it is perishable??? I’ve partnered with The Great American Milk Drive to raise awareness about this crucial need to help hungry families.

The Great American Milk Drive is the 1st ever national program to help deliver nutrient- rich milk to hungry families that need it most. To date more than 9.8 million servings of milk have been delivered as part of The Great American Milk Drive. Together we can do more!

Stats on Hunger and the Need for Milk

  •  More than 46 million Americans – including 1 in 12 million children – rely on Feeding America food banks and pantries.
  •  Milk is one of the most requested yet least donated items year round because it is perishable
  • On average, food bank clients receive the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year!!!! This leaves many families with very limited access to the essential nutrients found in milk, like protein, calcium, Vitamin D and potassium.

Our Visit to the Good Samaritan Feeding America Food Pantry in Paoli

We were beyond impressed with our visit to the local Feeding America food  pantry in our own town. Our visit was a very special eye-opening night learning more about hunger relief and we were wowed at the difference Feeding America makes in our own town as once weekly families in need can visit this local pantry to stock up on nutritious essentials – from fresh fruits, veggies, breads, pantry items and more – including nutrient rich milk.

The Good Samaritan Food Closet truly was an amazing Feeding America food pantry to visit. We were so impressed with their organization, volunteers, and the vast abundance of food they source and stocky weekly to share in our very own community. Having the kids come and volunteer with me was really important too so they can see first-hand how people like us can make a difference.

If you are like us, you probably support canned food drives or make monetary donations during the year for various causes, and this was a way for Kenzie and Kyle to see that donations from people like us do indeed touch so many lives in our own town.

They explained milk is often one of the 1st items to run out. Our local Feeding America food pantry has an amazing staff of leadership and hundreds of volunteers throughout the month that participate in streamlining an amazing process for families to select just what they need. From shoppers to packers to those organizing families on the evenings or mornings when they can come to “shop”.  Knowing how important milk is for families, residents in our town are really lucky to have a Feeding America food pantry with a room of fridges to stock Milk too!
