Disney D-Lightful Living: Taking Care of Your Chompers

It’s time for the Week 4 Disney D-Lightful Living healthy challenge. It’s all about taking care of your teeth. Do your kids like to brush their teeth? Mine adore it at bedtime as I’ve made it a part of their routine since their earliest memories.

Sadly, somehow I guess I had a total mom fail at not making this part of their 1st thing in the morning routine when they were super tiny. Uggh. So now I’m in a position where I find myself nagging every morning to get my Kindergartener Kenzie to brush her teeth. What kills me is both her and her little brother LOVE brushing their teeth! So I think part of the issue is that I’ve somehow turned it into a morning “chore” vs. a fun part of their routine the way they view it at bedtime.

I’m excited to incorporate the below “empathy” tip into my reminders about morning teeth brushing as this might help the battle. Otherwise, my kids adore fun character tooth brushes and scream with joy any time we buy new character toothpaste. Seriously total kid joy when we get new toothpaste! And don’t forget to eat Yogurt as calcium is so important for bone and tooth health. (Luckily my kids are on the bandwagon for yogurt consumption – I can’t buy enough of it!)

Healthy teeth start with healthy habits, and it’s never too early to equip tots with the tools they’ll need. Here’s some official tips from Disney Living and some awesome products that will make caring for your teeth more fun!
Try these three tips to help your kids get motivated to take care of their chompers:
  • Let your kids pick out a tooth brush or paste with their favorite character to keep things fun
  • Sing a silly song while kids brush to make the activity exciting and help make sure they brush teeth thoroughly
  • Help your kids understand the importance of good oral care by showing empathy when they protest the daily activity
