While they are occasionally known to sell out, making your purchase by 7 AM usually secures your spot for the day’s adventures. Price varies based on the daily demand. Prices typically range from around $15 to $32 per person, per day at both Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California
Maximizing Lightning Lane Reservations
- Book at 7 AM: Three things to juggle at this “magic” hour:
- MOST IMPORTANT: For the most highly coveted attractions like Tron and Guardians of the Galaxy, virtual queues open at 7 AM and again at 1 PM. These queues fill up extremely quickly, sometimes in a second, so being prompt is crucial.
- This is your key opportunity to make your first Lightning Lane reservation for most any of the other attractions.
- Simultaneously, you can also purchase access to exclusive Individual Lightning Lanes for high-demand rides such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Tron, Pandora: Avatar Flight of Passage, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Rise of the Resistance. These exclusive passes typically range from $15 to $20 per ride, varying by demand and season.
- Timely Use: You’ll receive a one-hour window to enjoy your selected Lightning Lane ride, with a grace period that allows you to arrive 5 minutes early or 15 minutes late. Using your Lightning Lane as early as possible allows you to use your Lightning Lane passes more efficiently, as you can book another as soon as you’ve checked in for your current reservation. Some rides require you to check in twice, at the entrance and just before boarding. You’ll be able to book your next attraction after the second check-in.
- Rebooking Strategy: If you haven’t used your Lightning Lane reservation within two hours, you’re eligible to book another. Setting an alarm for this two-hour mark is a smart way to keep track of your booking opportunities, helping you to make the most of the Lightning Lane service.
- The Fine Balance: Keep in mind that you should always balance three things:
- Which rides you most like.
- Which rides have Lightning Lane availability.
- Proximity to where you’ll be in the park (you don’t want to be zigzagging across the park all day!).
- One-Time Use Policy: Each Lightning Lane reservation is limited to one use per attraction each day. For example, you can’t reserve a Lightning Lane for Space Mountain twice in one day. This policy ensures all guests have a fair chance to enjoy the rides.
- Changing Plans: If you need to adjust your day, Disney’s system allows you to modify your Lightning Lane selections. You can check for new times or switch to a different attraction. Always confirm the time on the final booking screen, as it often differs from the initial selection. Keep on refreshing as things open up and change every few seconds!

- Utilize Single Rider Lines: Don’t overlook the single rider lines for rides like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Test Track. These lines move fast, allowing you to board within 10 minutes, and there’s a chance you and your party could end up riding together anyway.
- Here’s an example set of reservations from one our days. You’ll see 7:00 AM can be intense!
- 6:45 AM – Purchase Genie + for the day for each family member.
- 7:00 AM – Try to get in the virtual queue for Tron, including the whole family.
- 7:00 AM – Purchase Individual Lightning Lanes for each family member for Tron. Tron X 2 !
- 7:00 AM – Book our first regular Lightning Lane attraction, balancing our favorite attractions, proximity, and early availability. 8:00 – 9:00 Jungle Cruise!
- Get to park for rope drop at 8:00. Walk (speed walk!) straight to Thunder Mountain. Pray that it is not closed!
- Use Jungle Cruise Lightning Lane. Immediately rebook next Lightning Lane – Space Mountain 9:30 – 10:30.
- Rinse and Repeat!
