Just say the words “Captain America” and half of your family will want to hit the theaters this weekend. Name drop Octavia Spencer, and you’ve found a winner that your entire family can agree on! Although this isn’t the stereotypical superhero movie, there are definitely superhero themes that will find surprising ways to give you all the feels. Check out our Gifted Movie Review below for more about this fantastic film.
Gifted Movie Review
Gifted the movie, starring Chris Evans and McKenna Grace, tells the story of a small-town, vulnerable guy desperately trying to raise his sister’s math-wiz daughter. I was pleasantly surprised to see this creative, heart-warming story take an unexpected path. You’ll find yourself challenged by the story. Questioning what you would do in the same situation. You may even have a hard time deciding who to root against. In an interview with Octavia Spencer, she hoped that this movie would help open up discussions for families dealing with similar issues.
Besides the great storyline, McKenna’s 10-year old acting skills is unlike any other. She is able to make you laugh one minute and then literally tear your heart to pieces the next. I have no doubt that we will be seeing her on the big screen many years to come.
Octavia plays a supporting role in the film. She is the perfect side kick for McKenna and provided a lot of the levity and depth that complemented Chris’s role. I just wish that I had Octavia as my fun, karaoke neighbor. My childhood would’ve been so much cooler.
Gifted hits theaters everywhere April 12th. Don’t miss out this April! Definitely a must-see. This was seriously the best movie I’ve seen all year!!! You can read the official info from the Gifted movie website here.
Disclosure: Thanks to Fox Searchlight for paying for my travel expenses to attend the press junket for Gifted. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
