How To Cut the Cable Bill with a Digital Antenna
With so many amazing streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and Disney Plus, we found that beyond sporting events we weren’t utilizing our cable tv enough to merit the cable expense. We are now saving over nearly $1000 per year with our new set up!
What you Need to Buy
What you need to buy for a seamless experience and high quality signal to all your TV’s includes the following 2 items.
A small investment in these two items will set you up for FREE TV and big monthly saving by cutting the cable cord. We grabbed both items on sale prices and paid $39 for our Digital Antenna and $99 for the Tablo.
We are using the Clearstream Eclipse Indoor Ultra-Thin HDTV Antenna. Our reception is incredible and the clarity on our TV screens is amazing. You simply peel & stick this antenna to any smooth surface. Here’s our antenna in our downstairs family room window.
Where to Place your Antenna?
Note: You will need to find EXACTLY where to place the antenna for the best signal in your own home. This is the part of the process that will require some patience. My husband Mike probably spent 1 hour trying the antenna upstairs, downstairs, outside and on various windows in the home to see which gave us the most channels. Once we found the correct area in our downstairs window, for us the placement of our antenna by a difference of a few inches was 40 TV stations compared to only receiving 2 stations!
The placement of your antenna is a critical ingredient on How To Cut the Cable Bill with a Digital Antenna to still receive tons and tons of free TV stations!
As a starting point, you can utilize the Antennas Direct Transmittor Locator website to punch in your zip code and figure out where antennas are located near your home town so you know to start with either an east, west, south or north side window.
The Tablo device connects to your Digital Antenna and then sends the TV station signals wirelessly to all the TV’s in your home via the Tablo App. This tool is a critical part of the process otherwise, you’d need to somehow connect wires from your digital antenna across your home to plug into your TV. You need a wireless solution and Tablo is just what you need. Tablo also provides DVR too! YAY!
You need to have the Tablo App which is available via Roku, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and XBox. You then access all your free TV stations via the Tablo app on your television. This is what the Tablo app looks like on our TV that uses Chromecast.
A small investment in these two items will set you up for FREE TV and big monthly saving by cutting the cable cord. We paid $39 for our Digital Antenna and $99 for the Tablo. For under $140 we became free of our monthly cable television charges while still getting all kinds of free HDTV stations thanks to this Digital Antenna and Tablo set up. Hooray!
Tablo even gives you a channel menu so you can surf to see what you’d like to watch or find the program you are looking for on TV.
