LeapPad Review and #Giveaway

Win it! We’re giving away a brand new LeapFrog LeapPad along with 2 brand new cartridge games –Pixar Pals and PetPals2–  that are interchangeable both with the LeapPad & the LeapFrog Explorer. Yes, the cartridge games are cross compatible on both LeapPad & Explorer which is fabulous news!
Entry details are below along with our review.
We recently received the LeapPad from LeapFrog so our family could take the new LeapPad for a test run. My kids are 3 1/2 and almost 6 years old. They love it. I think the device – is wonderful for kids 3+ (official ages are 4-9) as my son is able to figure out how to use many of the games, camera etc. My daughter at almost 6 can practically figure out everything quicker than me as she is a total natural. And my 3 year old adores it too and I’m amazed at just how easily he can also navigate his way around the LeapPad.
As a tech forward family, we’ve been anticipating the release of the LeapPad given the affection our family – and the kids – have for the iPad. Let me tell you the LeapPad does not dissappoint. It is a phenomenal learning tool and we basically consider it now the kids “iPad” in our household.   This is an easy and safe way for the kids to develop key computer/device skills on a kid safe sturdy gadget vs a $600 iPad too!
Features my kids are most excited about:
1. Camera – endless play as they take and view their photos. The kids get imaginative about what types of pictures to take too so it really becomes a game for them.
2. Video Camera – the kids have been making mini movies and all kinds of videos.
3. Art Studio – Easy to use with lots of options to make pictures and then save them to the device so you can view them later.
4. Watching actual videos via the player where you can download shows: Leap Frog learning factory is the only show we currently own and they are thrilled to watch it. And Mom loves that it is a learning show so everyone wins with this treat!
5. eBooks – We have a Cars 2 eBook that is very similar to the movie. Super for early readers to develop and reinforce reading skills. Entertaining for the younger users.
6. Cartridges for games are compatible with the LeapFrog Explorer and LeapPad: So if you bought an Explorer last year, don’t worry. The cartridge games are compatible with both systems. Totally interchangeable. Woohoo!
Overall, we rate this as an A+++++ product. Honestly, we cCould not be happier with this tech gadget for my kids. I won’t let my children use Nintendo DS products or games at this point as I think they are too young and I only want them using electronic gadgets that basically geared to being 100% learning oriented – LeapFrog has always been our go to choice for this type of toy. We fell in love with Tag Readers a few years ago along with the LeapFrog Explorer.
With the LeapPad my kids are able to have fun, learn, and feel like they are “cool” with a gadget similar to Mom, Dad or older kids using iPhones, iPod Touches, or iPads.
Batteries/Charging Info:
It takes 4 “AA” batteries which are very easy to install – no screwdriver required to open the back, although you can use the stylus to help you open it – small children would NOT be able to get into the battery compartment so it is safe for kids. I do wish you could recharge this device via a cord like our own iPhones/iPads but the technology does not yet exist for this functionality. Someday! The pro is that the LeapPad does accept rechargeable batteries.
Pixar Pals Cartridge Game and Pet Pals 2 are also included in this giveaway. Pixar Pals is all about science – so your older kids will love learning about composting, recycling, and space and your younger tots but the older ones will enjoy Pet Pals 2 as they can care for little electronic friends which kids ALWAYS love to do.
