I saw a sneak peek advanced screening of the upcoming Disney XD series “LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures” and attended a Q&A session with series Executive Producers Bill Motz & Bob Roth (“Penguins of Madagascar”) to hear the inside scoop on their new show. I absolutely LOVED the new series and the passion of the shows producers. .Introducing new heroes and villains to the LEGO Star Wars universe, the animated television series “LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures” will premiere Monday, June 20th (10:00 a.m. EDT), on Disney XD. After this airs, the 1st four episodes will be available to stream as well. And let me know tell you, the 1st episode ends on a cliffhanger and I was DYING to binge watch!
Lego Star Wars The Freemaker Adventures Review
As I said above, I absolutely LOVED this new series. I’m a fan of LEGO’s and Star Wars, but with my busy Mom schedule, my kids TV time is usually when I’ll do work on the computer or chores around the house. However, I’ll now be watching with my 8 year old son as I instantly became addicted to this new world of Star Wars and the cast of characters. Set between the events of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” the action comedy series follows the Freemakers, a family of sibling scavengers who operate a salvage and repair shop in space. The series will also feature familiar characters and locations from the filmed Star Wars saga.
The show included all kinds of humor that will appeal to all ages and the theme of family was huge. What was very cool was the characters in the show are creating and building their OWN stuff by collecting all kinds of space junk and broken up starships that they find while flying the galaxy. Just like kids use LEGOs to create with their own imagination.
Like with all Star Wars shows, the idea of dark vs. light and good vs. evil is definitely ever present in this new saga. The 1st episode ends on a HUGE cliffhanger. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’m being vague in this overall review but it’s a must watch show for your Star Wars fans and I promise you’ll be wanting to binge like me after the end of Episode 1.

Interview with the Creators of the Lego Freemakers
First of all, let me just say I absolutely LOVED the passion brought to the show by the producers and creators. Their passion was so evident I could almost taste it sitting there chatting with them!
This show was a BIG SECRET for them to keep…..
BM: We had this time where we weren’t allowed to talk about it. It’s a very scary thing!
Q : How long did you not talk about it?
BM : For a year.
On the Creative LEGO building Aspect of the Freemaker Adventures
BM: Pouring out the blocks and creating your own thing and I kind of you know I mean, no offense to people who glue their bricks but that to me is that’s not the point. And for me it was like playing with my family, right? This is like, it was something that my mom and dad did with me. Building these bricks is something I had done with my kids. So for me it was we invented this out of that play together. And that fit into the whole model. There’s been so many battles in Star Wars…..
There’s so much busted junk, right?
BR : It fits.
BM : I mean it fits so the idea that you’re going to take like this you know piece here and slap it together and make a new thing just felt really
And it’s something we see in our own home. My sons, you know, I see them play with the tie fighter and eventually you know the tie fighter gets smashed. Thank God my sons are creative enough to go, you know, I’m not going to have to repiece it back together with the instructions kit. I lost that booklet ages ago. But the beauty of Lego is that’s not a ruined toy at that point it’s just the beginning now.
Q : What is it like having a story part of the Star Wars story? Something that you created is now a part of Star Wars?
BR : I still wake up every morning and go WOW! Oh yeah, we’re really doing this, okay. And I remember in 1977 when my brother came home and said we’re going to the movies tonight. I’m playing outside and didn’t want to go to a movie. No, no, we’ve got to go. There’s a movie, it’s better than Star Trek. Which I was like, nothing’s better than Star Trek.
He said no, no, trust me. We’re going to go. And then the TV happened to be on and I saw the trailer. Okay this actually maybe is better than Star Trek. We went and it was a magical memory. I walked in there, seven years old not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. What seven-year-old does, right? That’s not a problem but I walked out of there going, oh I totally know what I want to do with my life. I want to give other kids the viewing I had right now.
It’s just huge joy bursting out of me. And I did. I had my brother to thank for that. And you know the beauty of it is, is that my brother is not with us anymore. And I always will have the memory of that night. He gave me Star Wars.
Squee! Loved heading into the Disney Channel building to screen our first episode of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. Gotta love seeing the Mouse Ears Screning room sign and all the Disney Channel posters and show info splattered about the offices. Very cool day!
