Liz Lange shares her holiday fashion advice & gifting tips

So excited! This past summer I got to meet fashion icon Liz Lange at the Getting Gorgeous event in New York City. Liz was attending to promote the new website she started with her sister Jane called Shopafrolic. I love Shopafrolic and find their daily newsletter irresitable. I’m sure you’ll love it too as the two sisters dish back and forth daily about their latest fashion tips, shopping advice, and fave product finds. You can sign up for Shopafrolic here.

Tis the season for holiday parties and festivities and fashion designer Liz Lange offered to share some of her know-how with Classy Mommy readers.

What advice do you have for Moms to look festive over the holidays?
I love wearing little dresses and look for any occasion to do so!  Don’t get hung up on dressy fabrics.  My favorite little go to dress is by Ella Moss and it’s a tee shirt knit but the cowl neck and short length make it sexy and cute when paired with heels.

I don’t spend a lot.  Some of my favorite sites are: asos.com,forever21.comshopbop.comalloy.com

Another great holiday look is simply wearing your favorite jeans, a slightly sexy top and killer heels.  Right now I am obsessed with a citizens of humanity super stretchy pair of skinny cargos that I love with a blouson style sweater and pumps or boots.

What’s your jewelry style? Any tips on how to score great finds?

I have a good watch (its a man’s vintage gold rolex) but aside from that I am all about fun dramatic costume jewelry.  Big bold cuffs, statement necklaces, piles of chain necklaces in all different sizes and widths and armfuls of bangles.  For vintage costume jewelry scores I troll ebay but I also love anything/everything Kenneth J. Lane, house of Lavande (but it’s pricey), chicos (yes – they have good jewelry finds!), asos, J Crew, Banana Republic, Roberta Freyman and Intermix.  There’s an amazing store in NYC called Gale Grant and also Jennifer Miller.  HSN has fantastic stuff as well.

Do you tips to look festive, yet casual, when attending events with the kids?

When I am attending parties with the kids I like to look pulled together but still be comfortable.  I usually pair a little dress or short skirt with a simple pair of ballet flats or flat heeled to the knee boots.

What’s your go-to girlfriend gift?

My friends and I rarely exchange holiday gifts as at this particular stage in our lives, it’s all about the kids!  When I do, I try to give them something to splurge on for themselves: a gift certificate for a massage or an at home mani/pedi.  Or maybe my favorite book of photographs by Slim Aarons called, “A Wonderful Time.”

What’s your go-to hostess gift?

When I am invited to a holiday party, I love to send an orchid from Foliage Gardens or a tight arrangement of pastel roses from Rosa Rosa (I always do this the day AFTER the party – as I assume the hostess has her own ideas of flowers/decor for the night of.)

What should Mom keep her house stocked with as far as “last minute” gifts for those surprise invites or those friends who surprise you with a gift and you want to reciprocate?

I always have plenty of wine and candles from my bff Jonathan Adler on hand for last minute hostess gifts.  But I love to bring a batch of freshly baked home made brownies or cookies as well.
