How Do You Party with your Mom?

What memories do you have of partying with your own Mom? Somehow the characters & relationships in Life of the Party make the unlikely storyline of Mom going back to college & partying with her daughter totally believable, hysterical, and relatable to everyone!

Backpacking through Europe with my Mom

In Life of the Party, Deanna, “Dee Rock”, played by Melissa McCarthy and her daughter, Maddie definitely share that special kind of relationship that transcends just being Mother and Daughter.  Once I became a Mom myself, I realized just how much I cherished all those extra special moments over the years with my own Mama.I admit I’ve never gone wild at a college party with my own Mom, but together we’ve had awesome moments acting more like friends and sisters than Mother and Daughter.

This movie reminded me of the 3 weeks my Mom and I spent backpacking through Europe together 21 years ago….when I was 21! I was studying abroad in Scotland my Junior Year in college and had a trimester break, so….. my Mom decided to join me and we went EVERYWHERE! We tried to stick to a daily budget and go for a more authentic experience staying in local pensiones – some were fabulous and a few were a bit questionable! We had so many adventures and simply the best time ever.

Venice. London. Paris. Rome. Nice. Pompeii. The Swiss Alps. Florence. Capri. The Amalfi Coast.

It was simply amazing and a once in a lifetime trip for both of us. There’s no one I would have rather done this traveling with and when I I think back on this trip I’m so lucky the 2 of us were able to go on this grand adventure. So many memories!

I don’t know if I’ve laughed so hard in a movie since Bridesmaids! I had the chance to see Life of the Party at the World Premiere in Auburn Alabama and walk the red carpet – and even snap a few photos with Melissa McCarthy and Julie Bowen. Talk about a bucket list item to check off – am I right? Check out some of my photos.

Julie even held my own “Life of the Party” clutch during our photo because she thought it was so cool and wanted one of her own! Talk about a bucket list item to check off – am I right? I only wish I had my own Mom with me as I know she would have loved it! I told her I promised I’d go see this movie in the theater with her.

Life of the Party Trailer

 Official Synopsis

Melissa McCarthy stars as an old school mom who creates a whole new life in LIFE OF THE PARTY – a hilarious comedy no mom should miss – in theaters just in time for Mother’s Day!

When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna (McCarthy) turns regret into re-set by going back to college…landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna—now Dee Rock—embraces freedom, fun and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

Rated PG-13.
