Reading Rainbow Launches iPad App Today!

Calling all Reading Rainbow fans!

The beloved TV show is back in digital form! The long time host, LeVar Burton, announced today the launching of a new Reading Rainbow iPad app. The event in New York City was complete with Tina Fabrique’s singing of the Reading Rainbow theme and a cake by TLC’s Cake Boss! Yum!
A big thanks to our writer, Allison Hamer, and author of the blog, Better with a Book for covering this event for ClassyMommy. Here’s her scoop on the new Reading Rainbow App.
The app was created by RRKidz, a startup co-founded by Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton and producer Mark Wolfe. The new app is targeted for children ages 3 to 9 and includes hundreds of books that are available in your own library or bookstore. While the makers of the app added bells and whistles to entertain your children, nothing interferes with the flow of the story. The text and pictures are not altered at all, which is one of the main reasons I am so excited about this app – Reading Rainbow is still all about the book!
The stories, narrated by Burton and a hand selected group of additional readers , coupled with updated videos accompanying each theme, allow children the opportunity to make meaningful connections and helps them to believe that “they can go anywhere” with a book!
Here is Burton hanging with the kids, while navigating the new app.
The iPad app itself is free for you to look through and download. Your first book is free as well. Hooray! To receive additional books for your virtual backpack, you’ll need to become a subscriber.
You can choose from several themed “islands” of books for just $9.99 a month, or $26.99 for 6 months. The app is available today, so don’t wait to download it – Share the magic of Reading Rainbow with your own kids.
