It was an absolutely GORGEOUS day for the Valley Forge Revolutionary Run this past weekend at Valley Forge National Park. With the park in our backyard, we’re no strangers to hiking, running, or enjoying the beauty there, but it was exciting to see the fanfare on race day. If you’ve never done it before, and are local to the Philadelphia area, this a perfect way to kick off your spring running season.
We realized the kids could participate this year too! Kenzie and Kyle loved the Patriot 1.776K for kids (just over a mile!) & we ran into our Uncle Bill on the start line too! The kids were VERY impressed with his costume when we stumbled upon him on the starting line waiting for their run to to start!
It was a speedy day for my racing crew & cheering was a workout for me! These guys run fast! I orchestrated the kids while Mike ran his 5 miler since both events were at the same time but with a staggered start.
Valley Forge Revolutionary Run
Mike grabbed 2nd overall in the 5 miler just as the kids race finished – he runs so fast he almost made it to see them cross the finish line. Kenzie took 1st & Kyle rocked his debut run with 5th place too running an 8:20 pace/mile which we thought was fabulous for a little 1st grader!
What an exciting morning! Mike’s strong finish earned him $200 and the kids got beautiful medals and certificates for competing in their run too, although I think Kyle was most enthralled with the free first aid kits he scored at the expo!
