Sometimes indoor survival can feel as challenging as the great outdoors when our modern appliances fail. So, this isn’t exactly Bear Grylls style of ultimate outdoor survival, but when it’s nearly 100 degrees on the 4th of July weekend and the A/C breaks, my suburban family is in survival mode to keep their cool.
We love to hike, camp and tackle outdoor adventures so I’m totally excited to watch Bear Grylls new TV show, “Get Out Alive” premiering on Monday July 8th on NBC at 9/8 c. It’s BOILING right now as the house is hitting 90 degrees indoors
Since I’m feeling inspired by Bear Grylls outdoor survival skills and his upcoming TV show that airs on Monday night, I thought it would be fun to share our indoor survival tips for staying cool when your Air conditioner breaks.
1.Enjoy the outdoor fun of summer – swimming, running through sprinklers in the yard and making S’mores after dinner
2.Stay positive and make the “house heat” sound like an indoor challenge adventure for your kids. My kids always reflect back the attitudes we throw at them.
3. Take a cold shower before bedtime. Really this works wonders!
4. Stay hydrated. We love drinking Vitamin Water or Gatorade after a hot summer day outdoors to replenish our fluids and all those electrolytes. Nothing beats a cold icy drink topped off with a straw.
5. Time for a family slumber party downstairs or in your finished basement if you have one. Our basement is about 20 degrees cooler than our upstairs right now so that’s where we’ll be sleeping!
For some serious survival tips and ideas – be sure to check out Bear Grylls camping and survival gear sold at Walmart here. This stuff rocks – I would love to make an entire kit to prep my family for natural disasters and total survival.
In the new show Get Out Alive, Bear Grylls will put 10 teams to the ultimate test in an adventure competition set in New Zealand’s South Island. Their mission is threefold: survive the wild, journey as a group and avoid elimination. Each week, Bear will send home another team. In the end, only one duo will remain – the team that he believes has shown the most heart, courage, initiative and resolve in their quest to “get out alive” and claim a life-changing grand prize of $500,000.
Sounds great doesn’t it?
