Snow is free and we’ve got a lot of it! Bringing snow into the house is a bit unconventional but the fun was priceless. Thrilling for the kids and truly not too messy for Mom. The kids had a blast stirring, shoveling, mixing, and sorting it into different sized bowls.
(Note: Once we started throwing the snow and pretending to wash our hair with it things got a bit wet and messy. But nothing a few big towels couldn’t clean up.)

We don't get snow very often here (I'm in Houston), but when I was a kid (in Northern Virginia) and we got snow, we made snow ice cream. This is pretty close to what we did if I recall correctly – http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Snow-Ice-Cream-II/Detail.aspx.
