The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O’Brien

If you have a child with food allergies or are concerned with just what might be lurking in the processed food we eat, then Robyn Obrien’s book, The Unhealthy Truth, is a must read. When her youngest child developed very serious egg allergies, Robyn, an MBA and former equities analyst has found her self an unlikely crusader to uncover serious issues with our food supply and how it is making us sick. As my 17 month old son is also allergic to eggs, I’m personally fascinated with the research of her new book and what to me is an expose about how GM (genetically modified) food could be the major culprit causing the astronomical rise in food allergies in children. After reading parts of her book in the last 24 hours, I’ve learned that in other parts of the world, like Europe, there are far stricter guidelines about GM food while in the US, the FDA has not yet taken the same precautions. I had the privilege of connecting with Robyn, a mother of 4, almost 3 years ago when she was first launching her business AllergyKids which raises awareness about food allergies and sells some innovative products that identify children with food allergies by their lunch sacks, stickers, medical cases, etc. I’m so excited to see this book on the market as Robyn can share her expertise and research with thousands of concerned Parents in America. Some of the research in this book has me downright scared, but I feel this is a story I need to better understand. The Unhealthy Truth, also shares Robyn’s journey from being a chef like me – think microwaveable mac n cheese- to going all organic and healthy for everything. I do orgnanic milk, but struggle to go 100% away from processed snacks and foods. Robyn outlines a plan on just howo to do rid your home of all the processed junk and even to get your kids to jump on board. She includes sample menus and snacks to help us on our way which I know I will find to be an invaluable resource in my journey towards a healthier diet for my family. Classy Mommy Approved!
