American Girl Story Ivy & Julie Trailer

Catch the trailer here – you’ll see it looks great – and I can say after watching it we all gave it a rave review.

Does Ivy Choose to Attend her Gymnastics Meet or her Family Chinese New Year Celebration  ??

AG_I-J_03376.CR2You’ll have to watch this special to find out! But as you can tell by the trailer, the big dilemma is should Ivy attend her special family party or compete in her very important gymnastics meet.

My kids and I really enjoyed this American Girl special and found it heartwarming and entertaining. The story was thoughtful and generated great conversations about cultural differences and making personal choices while balancing family obligations and responsibilities. My kids got a kick out of the 1970’s fashions in clothing and home decor. Me too as it was a flashback for this Mama born in 1975!

As an athlete and swimmer, my daughter really loved the challenges Ivy faced trying to balance social obligations with her competitive drive and the responsibility she felt to represent her gymnastics teammates. We also loved watching Ivy use the Balance Beam and “old school” 1970’s style gymnastics equipment.

Synopsis: An American Girl Story Ivy & Julie 1976: A Happy Balance

Set in 1976 San Francisco, Ivy Ling (Nina Lu, BUNK’D) is a 10-year-old Chinese-American girl who struggles with finding a balance between her two cultural identities: Chinese and American. With her family’s Chinese traditions and obligations, she wishes to be like her all-American best friend, Julie Albright (Hannah Nordberg, General Hospital). When her gymnastics tournament and family’s big Chinese New Year dinner land on the same day, Ivy relies on Julie to guide her with a difficult choice. The special also stars Gwendoline Yeo (American Crime) and Lance Lim (School of Rock).

Other Amazon Original American Girl Specials

The first two original American Girl specials for Prime Video, An American Girl Story – Melody 1963: Love Has to Win and An American Girl Story – Maryellen 1955: Extraordinary Christmas, were based on the characters Melody Ellison and Maryellen Larkin from the BeForever historical-inspired character line. You can still watch these specials if you missed them or want to watch them again as they are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
