Win it! We’re giving away 2 new books from The Berenstain Bears Beginning Readers Good Deed Scouts collection by Jan & Mike Berenstain. These books are fabulous my 6 year old daughter, who is reading at about a 2nd grade level, was able to truly read these books by herself. Like any Berenstain Bears books the pictures are fun, the adventures are just right, and the kids will love the stories. More important, these books present a situation where your kids will appreciate how the Good Deed Scouts lend a helping hand to make a difference in the lives of others.
Lessons I always want to reinforce with my kids!

I especially loved the book where The Berenstain Bears Help the Homeless by building and working hard to create a homeless shelter. Good stuff! And great to read aloud to younger kids, like my 4 year old son to begin discussions about why it is so important to help others. Priced at about $3.99 on Amazon.com.

In our child centered culture, many Moms suffer from "Mommy Guilt". This book by the same title takes a refreshing look at these overwhelming feelings and how to deal with them. I had the pleasure to meet Aviva Pflock and Devra Renner, authors of Mommy Guilt earlier this year and let me tell you I’m impressed! The authors performed a survey of some 1,300 parents and offer up 7 principles to help us Mamas try out their guilt-free philosophy. The #1 Principle was "You must be willing to let some things Go". I couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly on this one after experiencing Mommyhood for only a brief 2.75 years! Read it – I think you just might feel a lot better about yourself! Just finished this fantastic summer read – The Beach House – Jane Green’s latest book. I first fell for her chick lit after reading Jemima J. The Beach House takes place on Nantucket which is a refreshing change from the typical NYC style chick lit. Love the location in this book and how Jane Green intertwines the lives of a handful of characters, all with separate stories and who do not know each other, until ultimately they all come together for a summer at "The Beach House" in Nantucket. Once I started reading I couldn’t really put it down. And the ending with a twist will surprise you too! As a a busy Mom of 2, I somehow managed to finish this read in less than 48 hours. Run out and get a copy and I bet you’ll soon be a Jane Green fan if you aren’t already. For more information, click
My Beautiful Mommy is a book which helps plastic surgery patients explain their "transformations" to their children. Yes, I think this is pretty outrageous. I don’t really want to debate the pros and cons of a book like this. Just thought this was an interesting find if you haven’t heard about it already. Frankly, perhaps there is a need for a book like this. If parents are having plastic surgery, we all know books help children understand tough questions, and if this helps the kids understand their world than so be it. Honestly the real issue is our culture’s obsession with being thin and beautiful. As a mother of a little girl this really worries me as I fear that someday my own beautiful little angel will have a poor self image due to societal pressures. For more information, click

You know that Barbie you had when you were a kid–the pregnant one whose belly popped off like a battery cover, allowing you to remove the peanut-size plastic baby and then snap on a flat new front (sold separately)? Well, that’s not exactly how it works… In The Parent Trip: From High Heels and Parties to Highchairs and Potties, Jenna McCarthy tells it like it is, with absolutely no apologies and with laugh-out-loud moments on every other page. Seriously, this book had me laughing out loud and virtually in tears it was so hysterical. Pregnancy and Motherhood is something which unites us all and Jenna covers everything! This book felt like meeting an old friend who knows just what kind of journey I’ve put myself through – cause my husband just doesn’t get it! Supermodel/mom Gabby Reece said it best: "Jenna brilliantly captures the hilarious insanity of motherhood and family. Whether you have little ones running around or just got pregnant, this book is for you." For more information, click
