If you live in the Philadelphia area and are looking for a staycation destination for family fun, Dutch Wonderland is a fabulous day trip. Depending on where you live, it’s likely a 45 minute – 90 minute drive, will take you to the castle gates of what is essentially a miniature theme park. Dutch Wonderland is located in Lancaster, PA in Amish country which also provides lots of other sightseeing options too.
Do you take a staycation to a local theme park in your area? Where do you and your kids like to go? The zoo? A waterpark? A day trip to the shore if you live on the east or west coast?
Dutch Wonderland reminds my children, husband and I of a mini version of Disney’s Magic Kingdom as it is complete with shows, rides, and theme park fanfare that appeals to preschoolers and young children.
For a budget staycation that requires no hotel stay but lots of family fun, we’re planning a day trip in August to Dutch Wonderland as we visited last year and the kids found it thrilling. The kids can NOT wait. I love that we’ll be saving money by just doing a day trip versus an extravagant vacation.
No money spent on hotels. Just a park ticket and supplies we need for success – like snacks and sunscreen! I’ll be stocking up on sunscreen and special treats for the kids at our local Walmart. We’ll all wear comfy flip flops or Crocs and bring a change of clothes plus our bathing suits….. so we can revel in the water park too! Kenzie will be styling in her OP tankini from Walmart since she won’t be needing her racing suit when we hit the water park.
Dutch Wonderland Bonus: the water park activities are also included in the Dutch Wonderland ticket fee.
Talk about value – the park also includes a water park too which is perfect for cooling off and breaking up a long day at a theme park.
