Find out what your dream job would be at DreamWorks

I know you’ve watched the credits roll by after a movie wondering “what would it feel like for my name to scroll across that screen”? Well, step onto DreamWorks Animation campus with me for a tour of the upcoming Mr. Peabody & Sherman movie, hitting theaters on March 7th, 2014,  and find out for yourself what job would be your perfect fit. You never know what could happen…..Find out what your dream job would be at DreamWorks.

I actually tested out a bunch of these positions during our press event for Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

The first thing that I learned while taking a tour of the campus is that every detail, from the fountains to the artwork, creates an environment that oozes creativity and innovation. As a result, the passion and attention to details poured into these movies are what help make them so incredible.

Dream Jobs at DreamWorks Animation

Job #1: Animator

How cool does that job sound? You may find this to be your dream job if you have a fascination with the movements of characters and have an interest in science. Animators will study anatomy to help them develop the motion of a character to be as believable as possible. It is also important to be detail-oriented because each animator will animate 3-5 seconds of screen time per week. A lot of details have to be considered for every piece, and they want their work to be perfect. In this photo, Jason Schleifer is talking to us about the big debate on where to place Sherman’s eyebrows. They had to get a little creative to make sure they weren’t hiddent by his glasses, and look where they landed on that decision!

Oh, and I had to throw in my big acting debut. Here’s me ready to read a line from the movie so that they can transport me right beside Mr. Peabody on the big screen.

Job #2: Art director

Of course, you’ll need some artistic ability to be an art director, but don’t let that get you down if you’re as bad as I am at drawing. Putting that aside, if you’re good at colors and designs and enjoy following though on a vision, you probably would enjoy this role. David James talks to us about how he wants to make sure that the viewers really believe in the characters. In Mr. Peabody and Sherman, their goal is to make sure that people are never wondering why a dog is talking. It should feel natural in the setting created.

Job #3: Story board artist

If you enjoy constructing ideas, visualizing them, and then performing them, you may have an interest in being a story board artist. The cool thing about this job is that you get to be on the ground floor of shaping the story and testing new ideas. With a lot of great suggestions being bounced around, you have to be open to compromise and feedback to make sure that the plot and jokes along the way are the best they possibly can be. In this picture, the head of story boards Walt Dohrn gives us a dramatic reading of story boards from a scene in the movie.

So, what did you choose? I think my dream job would be a story board artist, but I know that I have a bit of artistic skills to develop first. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy meeting these super-talented people and appreciate their hard work when it’s all finished in the movie as it comes to theaters on March 7th. It’s still fun to be in their shoes for a few minutes. And nothing could’ve ended this day better than to have the CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg jump in for a surprise photo with all of us bloggers.
