Q&A with the Voice of SpongeBob SquarePants Tom Kenny

Classy Mommy teamed up with Popsicle this summer and we had the chance to hear from Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants who was also working with Popsicle on the “Your Yosicle Adventure” contest. The contest has ended but we’ve received our interview with Tom aka the voice of the famous SpongeBob.

You can also visit the Popsicle Facebook page to play some fun games – like Your Yosicle Mad Libs. It’s a great way to have fun on the computer with the kids and stay connected to Popsicle too!

What’s it like being the voice of Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants?

  • Pretty normal! Luckily working behind the scenes is the perfect fit for a shy guy like me and no paparazzi are going through my trash cans. SpongeBob SquarePants was the brain child of Stephen Hillenburg whom I worked with on Rocko’s Modern Life so it’s been a real treat to build and grow that character together.

How often do you voice episodes or what is the time commitment to record 1 episode?

  • In general, voice acting can be as quick as a few hours, a few days or a whole week. The dynamic and prolific nature of the industry requires quick turn-around times so there’s never a dull moment!

Can you tell us about your partnership with Popsicle and the “Your Yosicle Adventure” contest and Activities?

  • The Your Yosicle Adventure and activities are a great opportunity to gather the family in a fun, interactive and virtual project. It turns the computer into a sharable resource instead of an isolating one where the whole family can brainstorm together to come up with the best ending for Popsicle Pete. Stay tuned for the winning entry and to see how Popsicle® Pete escapes the “Bulls on Tirade”. While we figure out the best ending for Popsicle® Pete, choose your own adventure, fill in the missing words, and reveal an unexpected story!
