This back to school season, the kids and I teamed up with the folks at Milk to serve up some fun ideas for Milk’s The Breakfast Project. Check out How to Make Milk & Fruit Smoothies recipe below!
How to Make Milk & Fruit Smoothies
Our favorite idea was to turn our classic Milk & Fruit Smoothies into Popsicles.
Here’s a video showing just how easy it is to make smoothie popsicles from Milk and Frozen Fruit. Using household ingredients and in less than 4 minutes, we were able to make these smoothie popsicles to pop into the freezer so we could enjoy them the next day during our morning rush.
Here’s the Berry Berry Smoothie Recipe I used from the Milk Mustache website. You can tailor this as you’d like subtituting your favorite fruits but this gives you a good idea on the ratio of fruit to milk. To prepare, put all these ingredients in a blender. You can use a traditional blender, or if you’d like you can use an immersion blender like the one I used in this video.
Ingredients
1 teaspoon | vanilla extract |
2 teaspoons | honey |
1 cup | frozen mixed berries |
1 cup | lowfat or fat free white or strawberry milk |
Smoothies and smoothie popsicles are my favorite way to SNEAK extra milk into my children’s diet – and my own. I’m especially concerned about adding more milk to my 4 year old son’s meal plan too since he has Celiac disease and I’m always worried he is not getting enough nutrition.
I’m a firm believer in starting the day off with a very healthy and hearty breakfast. Breakfast truly is the perfect time to model healthy habits for the whole family – including drinking milk. I love giving my kids milk when they start the day since I know it gives them the nutrients and energy they need to focus and perform in school.
Plus, at a quarter a glass, Milk gives my kids the nutrients they need, but stays within our budget too. It’s something I always try to keep in the house and it makes the perfect addition to top off any breakfast.
