NASCAR Racing Experience Review: Take a NASCAR race car out for a spin

Check out our photos of my NASCAR Racing Experience review and read our tips, advice and review of my 5 minute drive NASCAR style. Top tip: YES you will need to to drive a stick shift for this adventure unless you choose the passenger option.

I know I’m not the best driver out there. I mean, I did hit a sign during my drivers test. And I realize that it’s better for me to park in a garage than to attempt a parallel parking maneuver. So when I was given the opportunity to drive a race car at Myrtle Beach’s NASCAR Racing Experience, I wasn’t surprised to see the worried glances from friends and family. But the adventurous side of me knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I couldn’t pass up.

I was particularly nervous about racing one of these cars since they are manuals. I haven’t attempted a stick shift since my high school days when my jeep-loving, Abercrombie ex-boyfriend would let me take his car around the school parking lot. So I freshened up my memory in a local parking lot and crossed my fingers for the best.

When you get to the racetrack, the instructor will show you a quick video on safety and and the technical parts of the car. Now, I must admit that this video only  made me more nervous about what I was getting into. But then I saw my cool jumpsuit and wasn’t going to back out then.

Once you’ve watched the video, it’s time to wait your turn to race a car. Depending the package you buy, your drive will most likely be 5 or 8 minutes. You’re alone driving in the car, but you have an instructor guiding you through an ear piece. For those of you worried about driving a stick shift, have no fear…You spend the first few seconds getting into fourth gear and then you don’t have to touch the gears again until the finish. If you can just get the car going, you’ll be great. When you’re finished, you get a certificate announcing your accomplishment and your speed.

Now, I did the five minute package, but there are several choices to choose from. There’s also many different locations to book a race car experience. The locations include: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Texas, Miami, Richmond, Kentucky, Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, California, and New Hampshire. You can find specific locations here.

Package details:

5 minute drive: $365-425
8 minute drive: $465
Ride along as a passenger: $130

I think this experience would be great for a girls trip or for a special corporate event. Prices and times are flexible based on your event’s needs and budget, which I thought was pretty cool. So if pricing seems a little out of your range, give them a call and see what they can do for you. It will definitely be the talk of the town if you schedule such a fun, unique event. This experience will take you out of your comfort zone, but if I can do it, so can you! You won’t regret it. Plus, you get awesome pictures and a memorable story to share when you get back home.

Note: Thanks to the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for paying my travel and expenses on this trip. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
