Neighborhood Toy Store Day – Shop Local!

Today’s the day to celebrate the wonder of shopping local – and to relish all those extra special toy treasures you’ll only find at a locally owned toy shop compared to a mass market retailer. I love exploring our local independently owned toy shops – the toys really are fabulous and so unusual compared to what I see on a regular trip to Target.

Here’s a list of the Best Toys of 2012 as selected by The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA)

To encourage families to “shop local,” participating independent toy stores across the country are hosting in-store events for families, including activities such as performances, craft projects, snacks, prizes and special discounts.   Log onto the new website www.yourneighborhoodtoystore.org to search the calendar listing section for local Neighborhood Toy Store events.

Last year the kids and I were on TV for a segment in Philadelphia to chat some of the top toys from 2011 – these are all still great finds today too. Here’s a link to our segment on Fox. The kids LOVED being on TV.
