Why is Election Day on a Tuesday?
Interesting tidbit! Do you know why Election Day is ALWAYS on a Tuesday?? Election Day has been held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November since Congress passed a law in 1845.
Back then, most Americans were farmers. November came after the harvest but before winter weather made travel hard. Chilly weather, long travel time, horses and sometimes even needing to camp overnight did not make getting to the polls easy! Many people needed a full day to travel to their polling place, so Sunday (church) and Wednesday (market day) were out, and Tuesday was just right. Axios has more on the history of Election Day.
