2026 Election Night Tracker

With so many races happening at once, it is historically always difficult to keep track of what’s been called and what’s still too close to call. That’s why we made a free printable 2026 midterm election tracker as it’s a fun way to get engaged and try to understand the results!

It’s simple, nonpartisan and works for everyone: elementary aged kiddos, high school and college students following along for class, and adults who just love election night.

What’s on the Ballot in the 2026 Midterm Elections

Here are the key numbers to watch on election night:

RaceOn the ballotNumber to watch
U.S. HouseAll 435 seats218 seats for a majority
U.S. Senate35 seats (33 regular + special elections in Florida and Ohio)51 seats for a majority (50 if the Vice President breaks a tie)
Governors36 states26 states have both a governor and a Senate race

  • Adults: Keep score from the couch, host an election night party with friends, or tape the maps to the fridge and fill them in as final results come in over the next few days.

Almost 18? Most states let you pre-register to vote before your 18th birthday. Vote.gov has the rules for every state, and you can register to vote there, too.

Election Night Tips

  • Results come in by time zone. Polls in the East close first, and states in the West, Alaska and Hawaii report later in the night.
  • Not every race is called on election night. Close races, recounts and mail-in ballots can take days. Leave those squares blank and finish them later.
  • “Projected” isn’t final. News outlets project winners based on early results. Official results are certified by each state in the weeks after the election.
